About

Built by a learner, while learning.

There's no company behind ClutchUp in the way you might picture one. There's one person, a provisional licence, and a lot of practice drives.

Why it exists

I'm Zach — a UK learner driver, and the person who builds ClutchUp. It started because my own private practice felt like guesswork: I'd drive for an hour with a parent in the passenger seat, and neither of us could say afterwards what had actually improved. Lessons with an instructor had structure and feedback; the hours in between had neither.

So I built the tool I wanted: something that rides along on practice drives, measures what a phone can honestly measure — braking, speed, cornering, steering, mirror checks — and writes up clear feedback afterwards, modelled on the kind of things examiners look for. Not an examiner. Not a prediction of your test result. Just honest structure for the practice you were doing anyway.

What that means for you

Because it's one person building for their own real problem, the app stays honest about what it can and can't do. When the camera can't see something, it says so instead of guessing. When you disagree with a detection, your answer wins. And the things that would make the product worse but the metrics better — ads, data selling, paywalls — aren't in it. ClutchUp is free, with nothing to subscribe to and nothing to cancel.

It also means things ship fast and imperfections get fixed by someone who hits them on real drives too. If something's wrong, tell me — there's no support queue routing you away from the person who can actually fix it.
